Another year down – and it was better than ever. If you made it to the sevens this year, read on to see the video and relive the great experience that it was. If you didn’t make it to the sevens, read on to see the video and become extremely jealous.
Now in its 28th year, the Heineken Kinsale 7s is Ireland’s largest rugby 7s tournament and builds on its success each year. Over 70 teams and supporters enjoyed great running rugby and the huge festival atmosphere at Kinsale RFC and in the town over the May Bank Holiday weekend – and boy oh boy was it huge.
To put it simply; this is a big boozy weekend that allows us adults to pretend we’re kids again and bask in some rare Irish sunshine.
This year, the Wooden Spoon Marauders from the UK were crowned 2016 Heineken Kinsale 7s Champions over Forces Exiles 19-15 in a tightly contested final. The Irish Development Women’s Team won the Women’s Trophy and The Lightning Bolts won the Men’s Open for the fourth time in a row. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t catch all that much of the rugby over the weekend myself – but I certainly caught all of the banter.
Next year is already pencilled in – and I cannot wait.
I’ll be back here next week with some nice foodie stuff – keep an eye out for it. It’s gonna be pretty mouth watering.
Take it easy,
